National Land

National Land and Property Gazetteer was the initiative of United Kingdom for providing a reliable and definitive address. The Gazetteer was earlier used in the collection of Stamp Duty on transactions of lands and taxes. Till recent times, UK did not have the information on address list in the country. It means that government as well as private service was unaware that, the address of varied sources is referring the same or varied properties. The NLPG is arrived by the data provided by Local Land and Property Gazetteers that is handled and administered by local authorities. The authorities were essentially the originator of address information except the postal codes. Then, the National Land and Property Gazetteer works similar to a hub or central repository for the Local Land and Property Gazetteers authority.

Minutiae of NLPG:

The NLPG has provided guidelines to local authorities for the representation of standard information of addresses. At present, the NLPG is administered by Intelligent Addressing Company in lieu of Improved and Development Agency called as IDEA. It is a union government constitution that co-ordinates and promotes good practices for the local authority. The NLPG, besides specifying address of people living or working, also shows non addressable properties, which is not used in postal deliveries. The non addressable properties are very vital in case of emergency reply, scheduling issues, assets insurance, and maintenance and repairs. The information posed with the NLPG is regarded to be a national model of the United Kingdom Property and Land. Though the National Land and Property Gazetteer is still in the intermediate level of progression, its data is of prime use for numerous private and public agencies. The NLPG is by far, the ultimate register providing complete details of Property and Land in UK. The NLPG is the first of its kind providing list of unique identification of land and property, conforming the British Standards of BS 7666. The NLPG grants the local government to relate their database to same eminent quality reference source, defining proper addresses and locations.

Conclusion:

In the early times, postcodes and addresses were employed in identifying properties for official purposes, but the creation of NLPG has granted the identification of land and property minus the postal addresses. Additionally, the old system database was limited to a particular geographical area for every address, the NLPG incorporates database including a polygon which determines the property’s boundary.
